Unilock introduced European-style interlocking concrete paving to North America in 1972, and in doing so created a product category that barely existed here beforehand.

What they make

Concrete pavers and slabs, retaining wall systems and permeable paving, sold into residential, commercial and municipal work. Permeable systems have become the strategic end of the business as stormwater management moved from a nice-to-have to a code requirement across much of the country.

Selling to specifiers

Paving is a tactile specification and the decision gets made by hand rather than by catalogue. The stands that work show weathered samples beside new ones, because no landscape architect will specify a surface without knowing how it looks after five winters and a pressure wash.

Expect crouching designers, sample boards being carried out by the armful, and detailed questions about load ratings, joint stabilisation and freeze-thaw performance.
