A new convention rewards a different kind of planning. Anime San Diego has major guests and a full main-stage schedule, but its first year at the San Diego Convention Center will also be shaped by the artists, vendors, cosplayers and fan communities visitors encounter between scheduled events.

Choose two or three anchor moments

Start with the official main-stage schedule. Saturday’s Sonic the Hedgehog and Death Note cast panels are natural priorities for many fans. Choose the appearances that matter most, note their times and build the rest of the day around them instead of trying to schedule every hour.

Give Artist Alley real time

Artist Alley is sold out, which means independent creators will be one of the weekend’s strongest discovery opportunities. Walk it once before making every purchase. Note the tables you want to revisit, then return with time to ask about the work and choose thoughtfully.

Treat the vendor floor as a marketplace

Go in with a budget and a short wish list, but stay open to products you have not seen online. Compare items when appropriate, check packaging and ask vendors about editions, sourcing or restocks. If something is limited, make a clear decision rather than assuming it will still be available late Sunday.

Make cosplay interaction respectful

Cosplay will be part of the visual identity of the show. Ask before taking a close photograph, avoid blocking traffic and give creators space to reach their next panel or meetup. A brief, considerate interaction usually produces a better picture and a better experience for everyone.

Plan for the building

Saturday runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The San Diego Convention Center is large, so allow time for security, navigation, food and a few breaks. Comfortable shoes and a portable battery are practical additions to any fan-day kit.

Leave space for the first-year surprise

The most memorable part of a new event may be something that was not on the original plan: a new artist, a spontaneous costume photo, a vendor demonstration or a conversation with another fan. The schedule provides structure, but discovery gives the weekend its personality.
