ASLA 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture

The American Society of Landscape Architects brings its annual conference and expo to Downtown LA for three days. It is one of the least transactional floors in the city, and exhibitors who treat it as a sales event tend to leave disappointed.

Who exhibits

• Hardscape and paving — concrete pavers, permeable systems, natural stone.
• Site furnishings — benches, litter and recycling, shade structures, bike infrastructure.
• Irrigation and water management — controllers, rotors, stormwater and greywater systems. In California this is the busiest aisle.
• Lighting, plant material and nurseries, and the software firms selling design and documentation tools into practices.

Why the sale happens later

Landscape architects specify; they do not buy. A conversation at a booth in September becomes a product named in a construction document a year or more later, and the purchase order is eventually raised by a contractor who was never at the show. Exhibitors measuring success in deals closed are measuring the wrong thing.

What works on this floor

Samples beat brochures, because the decision is tactile. The strongest stands let you handle the material, and show the weathered version next to the new one — nobody specifies paving without knowing what it looks like after five winters.

Bring someone technical. This audience asks about load ratings, permeability, maintenance cycles and warranty terms inside the first two minutes.

Continuing education

Much of the attendee day is spent in accredited sessions rather than on the floor, which concentrates expo traffic into defined windows. Staff accordingly — the hall goes quiet when a popular session runs.

Getting there

The Los Angeles Convention Center sits at 1201 South Figueroa Street, next to L.A. Live and Crypto.com Arena in South Park. The closest rail is Pico station on Metro’s A and E lines, a short walk from the West Hall entrance. Onsite parking is paid and fills early on consumer-show days; the surrounding L.A. Live structures absorb the overflow.

The venue is midway through a major expansion, so hall assignments and entrances move more than usual. Check the organiser’s floor plan the week of the show rather than relying on last year’s.
